Jan 28, · The measurements are subjective – eye wear, headache, concentration, productivity – but it does seem that Fedora needs to improve its fonts rendering. I still do not know why or how the fine tweaks make no difference, or what difference I ought to expect, but I believe this is an easily neglected area that needs a lot of research and focus. Fedora, Debian, Opensuse, Arch, they all have ways to make font rendering as good as windows. It's usually just a matter of installing a different type of freetype library that doesn't come by default due to patents, then switching on some option about lcd filtering. Hi! I'm using Fedora 21 with Gnome DE. I want to use gnome-shell light theme, but dark fonts on light background looks ugly. What can I do to improve shell's font rendering? I have created /etc/fonts/negpoz.com file with enabled sub-pixel rendering & slight hinting, installed freetype-freeworld package from rpmfusion repo and fonts in the apps looks great, but in gnome-shell they are still ugly.
